Railway Emergency Management

Course Description
Prerequisites IMS 100 or ICS 100. ICS / IMS 200 would be preferred. Experience as an Emergency Manager or First Responder in a leadership capacity or concurrent educational studies in field of emergency management. Course Description Basic Railway Training - This training provides attendees an understanding of the basic operations of the railway, including important information from the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) which governs the Railways in Canada. Railway Safety Act / Roles and Responsibilities / Governing Legislation - The RSA provides wide ranging authority to the Railways and those impacted during Incidents. This course teaches some of the relevant legislation regarding the rights and responsibilities of both the Railways and the community and provisions within. Incident Documentation - A diligent documentation process is crucial during an incident for any possible investigations that may result and additionally for cost recovery purposes. This training provides a railway centric focus on its importance. Tailored Tabletop Exercise - This component involves a scenario-based exercise which is designed upon the geographical location of the training session. The exercise will simulate a railway incident and will be tailored to the specific context and risks faced by the community it impacts. Working in small groups participants will have the opportunity to test their knowledge based upon the material learnt throughout the day. The participants will work together exercising their new found knowledge while responding to and managing the initial phases of a train derailment incident.
